The OIPP is concerned with preventing injury of all types. However, based on Ohio-specific injury data and an in-depth prioritization process, the following priority areas (Action Groups) were identified:
The developmental and cognitive abilities of children play a significant role in their vulnerability to injury. The function of the Child Injury Action Group (CIAG) is to identify priorities and strategies to reduce child injury in Ohio. The CIAG has identified focus areas to address in their five-year strategic plan including Drowning Prevention, Occupant Protection (child passenger safety and teen driving), Safe Sleep, Traumatic Brain Injury, and Youth Suicide. With support from the CDC’s Preventive Health and Health Services Block Grant and the Core Injury Grant, and
in close collaboration with ODH and the OIPP, the Ohio Older Adult Falls Prevention Coalition (OOAFPC) was formed in
November 2009. The coalition is comprised of professionals from a wide range of multi-disciplinary agencies
and organizations throughout Ohio. The function of the coalition is to identify and address statewide priorities
related to the prevention of falls among older adults.
The Ohio Overdose Prevention Network (Ohio OPN), coordinated by VIPS, is a multi-disciplinary action group devoted to reducing drug abuse and overdose. The Ohio OPN is implementing their strategic plan with the following focus areas: supports for responsible prescribing; promotion of harm reduction practices and policies; uptake and enforcement of evidence-based policy; improved utilization of data; and infrastructure.
